Cardinals Add Division I Transfer To Depth Chart

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - With the recent injury plague that’s fallen on the Plattsburgh State Cardinal Men’s Hockey team, coach Bob Emery has called upon an old face to help the Cardinals fight for their 20th SUNYAC Title and a return trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Joining the Cardinals starting this weekend will be Division I transfer from Bemidji State Darcy Findlay, who was slatted to come to Plattsburgh at the beginning of the season, but was unable to get his transcripts forwarded to the college on time. The 5’10 205lbs Sophomore forward, who hails from Bristol Quebec, played for the Bemidji State Beavers for the past three semesters totaling 3 goals and 5 assists in 31 games for the Beavers.

Before going to Bemidji State, Findlay played for the St.Jerome Panthers of the QJAHL where he scored 12 goals and added 18 assists in just 27 games, and was the leading scorer for the Panthers.

Findlay is said to have a great shot from the slot and will look to bring some much added finishing touches to an already talented Cardinal offense.

The Cardinals will be on the road this weekend to face SUNYAC foes Geneseo on Friday night and then travel to Brockport Saturday night. The Cardinals will be on the road for the next 4 games.

Strong Weekend Yields SUNYAC Honors

FREDONIA, N.Y. - As a result of capturing its own Cardinal Classic over the New Year holiday, the Plattsburgh State men's hockey team was rewarded by the State University of New York Athletic Conference as Josh Leis is the goaltender of the week and Chris Wieland is the top rookie. The period ended Sunday.

A freshman from Kitchener, Ontario, Leis (pronounced LEASE) was named to the Cardinal Classic All-Tournament Team after backstopping No. 2-ranked Plattsburgh to a 9-0 victory against Trinity (Conn.) in the championship game, turning aside all 23 shots he faced for his first career shutout. On the season, he improves to 4-1-1 with a 1.65 goals-against average and .922 save percentage.

Wieland (pronounced we-land), a freshman center out of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., led all scorers with five points in the Cardinal Classic. He had a goal and an assist in an 8-1 thrashing of Castleton State on New Year's Day and then posted a goal and two assists versus the Bantams on Saturday. He now ranks tied for third on the team with 11 points on five goals and six assists.
